DESCRIPTION

The Related Companies Developers, the City of Los Angeles and Frank Gehry dared to conceive of people living in the vicinity of skid row in downtown Los Angeles. Located across the street from the Disney Concert Hall, the project takes advantage of its full block site to provide a truly sustainable mixed use urban development for future generations of urbanites.

The typical program mix of Hotel, Condominiums, and Retail was expanded to become truly inclusive beyond the boundaries of the site. Specifically, it was a mandate that a grocery store, be a major part of the sustainable development of the larger urban context. Additionally, low income housing was incorporated to provide occupants of all incomes to become a vital part of this new urban community.
